Do you have a plan for the evolution and growth of your business? ???? If you need to create a plan from scratch, reset the one you have, or pivot, you need a brand blueprint.
Here at Mission Entrepreneur, we believe that building your brand is a lot like the process of creating the blueprint and plans for your dream home. And like a good design and build team, we want to come alongside you with our years of experience to help solidify your vision and blueprint and build your dream business together, step by step! We’re going to walk through how we approach a Brand Blueprint (and you can grab your download here)!
Step 1. Identify Your Goals and Your “Secret Sauce” (so you can build a strong foundation)
What’s your vision for your business? What are your goals and what will reaching those goals accomplish for your lifestyle?
- A steady income month after month?
- Working from home?
- Hiring a team?
- Providing for your family?
We’ve found that keeping your goals in mind will help you know if and when it’s time to invest, get help and mentorship, and expand your offerings. Once you have your goals defined, it’s time to dive into creating a solid foundation. The foundation of your business starts with your purpose and positioning.
- Why does your business exist and who do you serve?
- How will you make people feel “at home” when they work with you?
- How will things have grown and changed over the next few years?
- How many team members will you have and what will your work weeks look like?
- What makes you different from the cookie-cutter business next door?
- Why is how and what you do different or better than others in the same niche?
- What do you want your business to look like in one year, three years, and five years?
Once you identify your “Why”, “What” and “Why You”, craft your snappy Brand Statement so you can clearly communicate your secret sauce.
Step 2. Create or Refresh Your Visual Brand Identity (so you business has curb appeal)
Let’s talk about one of our favorite topics for a minute…brand identity. ???? Your brand should shine through in your signature look and design. Your brand visuals provide personality to the experience your customers have with you through your fonts, colors, photos, and even the language you use on social media and your website. (While copywriting isn’t visual, it’s a powerful part of your brand’s way of connecting with people.) You’ll apply this look and feel to create “curb appeal” to your website and social media, which is where people will peek into your brand and decide how it makes them feel.
Your brand should shine through in your signature look and design!
Once you build your branding look and feel, you’ll want to share it with people around you. (Trust us on this, it’s exciting to have great branding that’s totally aligned to who you are and how you do business!)
Using the analogy of designing and building your dream home, think of your brand visuals as the style of your house as well as the interior design of your home. Your brand needs a signature visual look and “curb appeal” to attract the right customers. First impressions matter. When your ideal customer lands on your social media or website, will they decide to take you up on your offer?
Describe your business and brand:
- Is it a practical, simple, and minimal?
- Is it glam with elaborate details?
- What types of “interiors” are you drawn to–both in your home and when looking at other businesses?
- Are there color palettes that you tend to use? If so, do you feel that the mood and energy of those colors represent your business?
Don’t have a brand identity yet or even a website? No problem. You can build one from scratch (and if you’d like our help, we’d love to make some recommendations!).
Take notes on what you have already as far as branding, what’s missing, what you’d like to change, and what you’d like to incorporate into your business.
Step 3. Build a “Neighborhood” and Grow your Following
Step 3 of your Brand Blueprint is a big one…connecting with people and finding customers. But how do you network online and grow your audience when you’re new to marketing?
Through social media channels and email, for starters.
Think of your online networking and marketing like “virtual housewarming” parties. You’ll need to find the style of “party” you like to throw. Whether it’s hosting other school parents, professional LinkedIn style networking events, or potluck in the cul-de-sac type gatherings–online or in person–you’ll find the people that share your values and will eventually bring your brand to life with more customers.
But here’s the thing. You don’t just want more customers. You want the right kind of customers. The kind that “vibe” with you, that love what you offer and how you offer it, the kind that will tell their friends and family about you. The kind of customers that become your biggest fans and your brand ambassadors.
